Each year Belmont Intermediate School participates in the Intermediate School Sports Camp held at Totara Springs, located 10 minutes out of Matamata. Teams of around 35 students compete against other schools in more than 35 sporting events. Camps start on a Monday afternoon and finish on Friday at lunch time.
Whilst these camps are competitive, they also give students the opportunity to enter events that they would not normally have the opportunity to participate in.
The sports played at the camp include archery, athletics, basketball, bowls, chess, croquet, cross-country, darts, draughts, frisbee golf, hockey, hole in one golf, kayaking, mini golf, netball, petanque, rugby, shooting, soccer, softball, speed rock climbing, spikeball, swimming, team triathlon, tennis, touch, tag and volleyball. Some highlights of the camp include the unique sports of cage soccer, human foosball, wallball and scramball, along with the camp's unique sports cheer night.
The majority of the selected team are Year 8 students, however some Year 7 students may be selected.
To assist in the selection of students for a team covering such a wide range of sporting skills criteria such as sportsmanship, fitness level, experience, commitment and attitude, up to date in school work and homework, behaviour, time management, team ethos and commitment to school values are used. Students are required to submit a 'Sports CV' with their application. Further details of the application and selection process will be communicated to all students before selections are made.
